Here we have for sale a 1950s or early 1960s Robert "Mouseman" Thompson oak pin dish.
The piece is in very good original condition with no damage, although there a few small, light patches of wear, to be expected through age and use. Nothing major, but needs pointing out. Fumed in a beautiful honey gold.
This pin dish is typical of those made before the mid 1960s. It is fully adzed and hand tooled, unlike the later pin dishes where a small scoop was used to create a perfectly circular bowl. The signature mouse is well carved in an animated pose, sporting a nice long tail, running the length of the pin tray. It measures L10.5cm x W7.8cm.
Unlike its ubiquitous Mouseman ashtray cousin, a lot fewer pin dishes were produced (no doubt made in such large numbers with the size of the smoker market in mind), making them that little bit harder to find today.
To nourish and preserve the oak, this pin dish has been lightly waxed using Gilboy's polish, which is a 100% natural product used by top restorers and conservators.
All in all, a very collectable example of a 1950s/1960s piece of Mouseman which would provide the new collector a great entry level item.
The pin dish will be safely and securely packaged for tracked and fully insured shipping.
