VINTAGE BOB "WRENMAN" HUNTER - OAK PIN DISH -WREN ON LEAF

£235.00

Here we have for sale a vintage pin dish by ex-"Mouseman" trained craftsman, Bob "Wrenman" Hunter.

It's a beautifully adzed and hand-tooled little dish, in the shape of a leaf, featuring Hunter's signature wren. The mellow patina, particularly underneath the base, suggest a date of c.1980s.

The pin dish is in very good original condition with no damage. It is medium fumed.

This pin dish is typical of Bob Hunter's work. The finely carved signature wren is nice and plump and exquisitely observed. Even underneath the the base, the whole dish,is fully hand tooled and adzed, such is the attention to detail and craftsmanship.  It measures L12.5cm x W8cm approx. Bob Hunter is a gifted wood carver, one of the "Mouseman" trained craftsmen who left the company in the 1960s and 1970s to set up their own workshops and apply their skills to creating pieces in their own individual styles, who are known as the "Yorkshire Critters." Bob Hunter founded Wren Cabinet Makers in outbuildings next to his home in the Yorkshire village of Thirlby and is still working in his 90s. I believe he is the the last living Mouseman trained craftsman to have been apprenticed to Robert Thompson. His fine carving and attention to detail, along with his unique designs, make his work instantly recognisable. In the 1980s he adopted his signature motif of the wren after watching a pair of wrens building their nest in his workshop. To nourish and preserve the oak, this pin dish has been lightly waxed using Gilboy's polish, which is a 100% natural product used by top restorers and conservators.

All in all, a higly collectable example of Wrenman's work which would provide the new collector a great entry level item.

The pin dish will be safely and securely packaged for tracked and fully insured shipping by Royal Mail.
